Fred Hines
Fred Hines received a Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Education degree from Saint Francis Xavier in Nova Scotia as well as a Master of Education degree from the University of New England in Australia in gifted and talented, Indigenous Students. He began his teaching career in 1989 with Frontier School Division in northern Manitoba.
He spent 18 years in Manitoba in the north, central and inner city of Winnipeg, as a Teacher, Resource Teacher, Executive Director of Aboriginal Program and School Administrator. Fred has served as a School Administrator, Coordinator of Programs, and Indigenous Consultant in northern Alberta. He is currently employed by Edmonton Public Schools as the Principal of amiskwaciy Academy. amiskwaciy Academy is a 7-12 Alternative Indigenous Cultural School located in the inner city of Edmonton.
Fred's goals are to enhance the cultural component by continuing to attract community partners; to build upon the existing resources; provide instructional leadership in order to increase student achievement, using the guidelines of the District's literacy mode; and develop a safe and caring learning environment where students can take academic risks while maintaining their cultural identity.
