This presentation is about the examination and discovery of existing resources and networks in order to develop a open virtual learning commons for our district. Learning Commons have tended to have a focus on face to face learning environments. In actuality, Standards of Practice for Effective School Library Learning Commons include online and blended learners in a wide variety of ways. These include: 1)Facilitating Collaborative Engagement to Cultivate and Empower a Community of Learners, 2) Advancing the Learning Community to Achieve School Goals, 3) Cultivating Effective Instructional Design to Co-plan, Teach and Assess Learning 4) Fostering Literacies to Empower Life-Long Learners and 5) Designing Learning Environments to Support Participatory Learning. In this presentation we will discuss how to establish guidelines and evaluation tools that target resources to address the digital learning needs within our schools, district and community through a, "Virtual learning Commons".
